It’s base in Hamilton covers South Lanarkshire and offers a free and confidential service for people of all ages affected by drugs and alcohol.

Ged visited the base in Allanshaw Industrial Estate on Friday, June 14 to find out more about Young Addaction.

The service offers advice specifically to young people aged 13 to 21 affected by addiction and their families.

It offers one-to-one support, targeted support, drop-ins, group work and a range of other services to minimise the impact of substance misuse on the family dynamic.

Ged Killen MP said:

The Young Addaction staff were clearly very passionate and knowledgeable, and it was great to hear how the service is helping to support young people affected by addiction in one way or another throughout South Lanarkshire.

Addiction can tear a family apart, and it was heartening to learn of the enthusiasm and dedication with which the Young Addaction team fulfil their roles.

A spokesperson for Addaction said:

We were delighted to welcome MP Ged Killen to our Hamilton service and highlight how we support people in South Lanarkshire who are affected by drugs and alcohol.

We’re particularly proud of our young persons’ service, so it was great to see a local politician taking an interest in this work.

We think everyone deserves a chance in life and everyone has potential. Our workers are determined to help more people who are affected by substance use and to change South Lanarkshire’s outlook for the better.
