At a good-natured meeting of the local constituency party, on Friday 29th September, members discussed the qualities of both candidates, Richard Leonard and Anas Sarwar, for the leadership of the party in Scotland.  Although it was widely acknowledged that both candidates would make excellent leaders Richard Leonard was best placed to connect with the electorate and build upon the growing support the party had seen at the recent general election and local council by-elections.

Ged Killen, recently elected MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, and Central Scotland Region MSP Monica Lennon both spoke in support of Richard Leonard.

Although constituency parties can nominate candidates the election itself is based on one member one vote and voting begins on Friday 27th October and closes at noon on Friday 17th November with the result to be announced the following day.

To vote in the election, and help choose Scottish Labour’s new leader, you must become a member, register as an affiliate or a supporter by Monday 9th October.
